PERMANENT EXHIBITION
On the first floor, in the oldest rooms of the palace, there is a historical permanent exhibition telling the history of the place and the fate of its many owners. The exhibition occupies two rooms, where one can not only see exhibits related to or originating from the palace (including artifacts discovered during archaeological research and preserved elements of the palace furnishings), but also learn more about the entire palace-park-farm complex.
Among other things, visitors will find a large educational model, a virtual album of the Durant family – important owners of the palace, and their time will be enriched by a playing pianola, purchased for the palace by the Giesche company, its successive owners. The exhibition has a modern form and formula, combining contemporary displays and knowledge kiosks with historical elements.
The exhibition is complemented by an installation prepared in the attic, telling the story of the palace’s renovation and the difficult mission of restoring it to its state of splendor and to its new role – as a branch of the MOK. There you will be able to see a lot of elements of the old furnishings – doors, balustrades, and transoms. They have been subjected to conservative restoration in order to show, as it were, the last 100 years of changes taking place in the palace through successive visible layers of paint, traces of repairs and transformations.
Exhibitions
The Durants’ reign in Baranowice lasted continuously for more than a century, and during this long period they influenced not only the area around their estate, but also the life of the entire town. One of the more influential members of the family was the son of the heiress, Baron Emil Henry Erdmann Konrad von Durant de Sénégas, who was appointed landrat (starosta) of the Rybnik district by the king.
